Nashville Happenings- Tennessee Flavors

20130310-155450.jpg

Tennessee Flavors is an event benefitting the Nashville State Community College Culinary Arts Program and the Nashville State Foundation.

The second Annual event is scheduled for Thursday, March 14, 2013 from 5:30-8:30 pm in the NSCC student services center on the White Bridge Road campus. Our focus for this event will be Tennessee-sourced products and people.

Now, I haven’t had the chance to attend yet due to scheduling conflicts, but I hear good things about it.

Are you planning to attend? Which restaurants are you looking forward to sampling?

What excites me?? Etch, Holland House, Cabana, 1808 Grille, Jack Daniels, Corsair Artisan, Arrington Vineyards, Etch, and Yazoo. There are over 50 restaurants and beverage companies offering samples.

Enjoy!

Snowy Saturday

We finally are getting some snow in Nashville, and I love it. I can relax on a Saturday while sipping on mimosas. Best snow day ever!!

Fun Happenings:

Image

1. Going to attend my first Food and Wine Festival in April in Austin, TX. I am excited even though some of the reviews about the crowds haven’t been so hot. Regardless of the reviews, I plan to look on the bright side and make the most of this trip. I am IN love with the city of Austin. Hopefully I can get some of my girlfriends from Houston to drive up for the weekend.

2. Spring Break trip to Florida. I am trying out a new spot that I haven’t been to yet. Panama City Beach… The beaches look lovely and it will be great down time. Laying out on white sand beaches is right up my alley after a long semester at work.

3. Spring Break trip to New Orleans. Mostly because I miss good cajun food and especially the crawfish. I got a ok deal on the hotel at Embassy Suites. I am a sucker for their free breakfast and manager special- free cocktails. The hotel also has a pool, so laying out is on my agenda…. that and drinking. The hotel is also farther away from Bourbon Street so I won’t have to deal with the loud drunks and such.

What are your Spring Break plans? Any foodie recommendations for these three cities?

Music City Happenings: This Week

The coolest invite only event is happening on tonight. I scored tickets to the Short Mountain Moonshine Launch party at City House. Gotta love a party that serves up moonshine with BBQ. I am sure that it will be loads of fun. Many thanks to Vivek for the access!.

Chicken and Brussels Sprouts

Happy Sunday! The weekend is almost over which sucks and we are almost to the half way point of July and it felt like it just started. This upcoming week is gearing up to be a blast. I am attending the Agape Animal Rescue Glitter and Glam fundraiser tonight. I will be trying out Park Cafe tomorrow with a bunch of foodies. I will be going out of town for a long weekend of hopefully wine, sun, and peace. I am also attending a baby shower in Atlanta on Sunday. So excited!

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday peeps, we have survived a holiday week. Check out some of the things that caught my eye lately.

1.  Another blogger, A Spicy Perspective, wrote a piece on being healthy. One of the points really made me reflect on my visit to Barry’s Bootcamp here in Nashville. She said that “ If you feel like you are going to vomit when your workout is over, you’ve done good.” I promise that once I left Barry’s Bootcamp, I felt like vomiting. My body was in complete shock. Foodie Review: PM

Last night, I had the pleasure of trying out another Arnold Myint restaurant. I am a huge fan of his other restaurants, Suzy Wong and Cha Chah ( gotta love the sangria and brussel sprouts!). He also has a spot inside of the Nashville Farmers Market (AM/PM) that I have yet to try. Read the rest of this entry »

First Look: The Southern Steak and Oyster

Have you tried the new swanky downtown restaurant called The Southern Steak & Oyster? It is located in the Pinnacle building. I tried out the restaurant during CMA Fest week. They are known for their oysters, so that is what I decided to try on my visit. Read the rest of this entry »

Foodie Review: Cabana’s Hot Chicken

So, I tried the Cabana’s “hot chicken” and waffle dish for the 30 days of heat. Here is the picture of it. I really thought that it had potential when it arrived. The red color fooled me. It was NOT hot at all. :-( I am kinda afraid to try some of the other Nashville Original places. I am willing to check out Cha Chah’s hot quail wings.

Have you tried the fancy version of hot chicken?

Moving Sucks/ Cajun Salmon- Shrimp with Asparagus

Well part of the reason that I have been MIA is that I moved. It isn’t exactly where I originally desired but I love it. I wanted to live in the uber chic East Nashville/Five Points area, but God led me to another great place. Who wouldn’t want to wake up and see horses outside their bedroom window. I am totally THEE country chick, so I am in love with seeing real animals roam about where I live. There are also the cutest bunnies that hop around the street too.

Of course I had to test drive the new kitchen! I had to travel just shortly down the road to get to the nearest grocery store. Luckily it is less than a five minute drive. The selection for veggies was good, but the seafood selection is seriously lacking. Read the rest of this entry »
